Why Blog about a Gland?

I’m blogging about my thyroid gland for several reasons:

  1. I am incredibly narcissistic and I am just SURE that you want to know every detail of my life!  (Actually, I sincerely hope this is not the case.  As I write this, I have not even decided if I will go public with this blog or not.  If I do, I desire all glory to go to God, who made me and my thyroid, who has the ability to heal me if He chooses, or if He chooses not to has the ability to lead me through whatever challenges lie ahead.)
  2. I think that all of us (or at least most of us) take our properly functioning glands, organs, cells, tissues, etc. completely for granted most of the time.  And we shouldn’t, because they are AMAZING.  We are “fearfully and wonderfully made,” and it is astounding all of the millions of processes that take place in our bodies every second of every day, usually without a hitch.  Only when something goes wrong do we stop to pay attention.
  3. I have found other people’s stories VERY helpful.  Reading about other people’s experiences has helped to keep me sane.  It makes me realize that I am not alone on this journey, and that most likely there are many out there who have walked a much more difficult path than mine.
  4. If I do go public with this blog, I would like to use it to raise awareness for Thyroid Cancer, even if I end up not having it.  I had NO IDEA before all this happened that thyroid cancer is the fastest growing variety, and that’s because it is so rare.  But at this rate, it won’t be considered a rare cancer much longer.

I hope you find my blog edifying, whether you’ve just found a lump on your thyroid, or know someone who has.  For even more information about the thyroid gland and various topics associated with it, see my links.
